Failed Back Syndrome

Patients who have had several back surgeries but continue with troublesome pain or other neurological problems. In some patients, a cause for the continuing pain is not clear. A detailed investigation should be performed to evaluate treatable causes in specific patients.

fine needle aspiration

the use of a thin, hollow needle to withdraw tissue from the body.

flexor muscle

any muscle that causes the bending of a limb or other body part.

follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)

hormone secreted by the pituitary gland in the brain that stimulates the growth and maturation of eggs in females and sperm in males, and sex hormone production in both males and females.

an adverse food-induced reaction that does not involve the immune system (i.e., lactose intolerance).

the detaching of healthy skin from one part of the body to repair areas of lost or damaged skin in another part of the body.

alternate name for "capsulitis" of the shoulder, which undergoes four distinct stages: pain; pain and stiffness; stiffness; resolution.

functional incontinence

difficulty reaching a restroom in time because of physical conditions such as arthritis.
